Sunny upstairs apartment in an allergy-friendly home
Sand Hills
Our 1921 American Foursquare is in the Summerville neighborhood and adjacent to the Sand Hills Historic District in Augusta, Ga. This upstairs apartment is sunny and cheerful with lovely historical details. It’s a great perch from which to work, explore the area, or attend events.
Allergy-friendly
Our Wire Cutter-recommended mattresses and all bed pillows have allergy encasements. We use odor-free products to clean, and our shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap are unscented. While we adore pets, no animals — including service animals — are allowed in the house because there is a severe animal allergy in our family.
History and comfort combined
The floors, the window glass and mouldings, and the picture rail are all original to the house. The fireplaces are set off by gorgeous mantels, and we carefully chose the furniture, bedding, and art to set off the history of the house and give each room it’s own personality. The blue bedroom has a king mattress, while the green bedroom has a queen mattress.
Fully-equipped kitchen with wide-open feel
The galley kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal — pots, pans, baking dishes, knives, cutting boards, spices, and olive oil. In addition to porcelain dishes, we’ve included paper plates to reduce any dish washing you need to do — because we chose to put in a washer and dryer instead of a dishwasher. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate are all available.
The kitchen cabinets are all higher than usual. Tall people may love this. Short people, like myself, may need a foot stool.
This apartment doesn’t have a dishwasher, and we provide paper plates and bowls — in additional to porcelain dishes — for your convenience.
Cozy sitting area
The sitting area is adjacent to the kitchen, so you can chat or watch TV while you cook. The table doubles as a desk if you need it to, and there are chairs in the bedrooms if you need to seat four people for dinner.
Funky, modern bath
Penny tile contrasts with modern quartz and a relaxing rain head shower to give you the feel of the past with the comforts of the present. An on-demand water heater means that you’ll never run out of hot water.
Bringing the outdoors in
The colors throughout the space are a modern take on the Arts and Crafts movement to bring the outside in — sky blue, apple green, and the color of the midnight sky are complemented by a cloudy day on the ceilings. This apartment has two sets of stairs — lit exterior stairs — and an interior set of 12. The interior stairs can’t be gated off, so this property isn’t suitable for small children.
