Welcome to Little Acres, a charming, newly renovated first floor apartment. Original wood floors, 12-foot ceilings, decorative fireplaces, and antique lighting provide charm, while new appliances, a rain head shower, a well-equipped kitchen, and a laundry room provide the ease of modern living.
Allergy-friendly
Our Wire Cutter-recommended mattresses and pillows have allergy encasements. We use odor-free products to clean, and our shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap are unscented. While we adore pets, no animals — including service animals — are allowed in the house because there is a severe animal allergy in our family.
History and comfort combined
The floors, window mouldings, base boards, and picture rails are original to the house. The fireplaces are masterpieces — the mantles, tile, and firebacks give each room its own personality.
Period pieces meet modern updates
Custom-built modern cabinets complement the old-growth ones that served the first owners of the house. Speckles in the quartz countertops mirror the warmth in the original butcher block top. Lighting it all is an early 20th -century chandelier with custard-glass globes.
The kitchen cabinets are all higher than usual. Tall people may love this. Short people, like myself, may need a foot stool.
We also ask that you not use the butcher block counter to cut on, as it is 105 years old, but there are plenty of cutting boards and cork mats for your use.
Art love in the central hall
We collected the art in this little gallery from friends and family. Each is unique and meaningful. We hope you enjoy looking at it. The light fixture is also a work of art — with a glass tulip shade that’s been in the house for more than 100 years.
Funky, modern bath
This house likely was built without an indoor bath. When a previous owner split the house into two apartments, they added a bathroom under the stairs. We took up the sisal carpet that covered a rotting sub-floor and added penny tile, which was popularized around the time the house was built. The wood in the room is original to the house, and the brick is the back of the living room fireplace. We added modern fixtures and updated the plumbing to make this a relaxing space.
Bringing the outdoors in
The colors throughout the house are a modern take on the Arts and Crafts movement to bring the outside in — sky blue, apple green, and the color of the midnight sky are complemented by a cloudy day on the ceilings. The curtains have botanical motifs for the same purpose. But for when you want to be outside, there are spaces for that, too.
